Prefoldin contributes to proteasome assembly now published in Journal of Molecular Biology
Prefoldin is an important evolutionary conserved co-chaperone. Prefoldin is associated with the accumulation of protein aggregates and loss of prefoldin function is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases. Here we show that prefoldin subunit 5 contributes to the assembly of the ATPase ring of the proteasome, identifying a potential molecular basis for the formation of protein aggregates.
